The narrow streets and impressive piazzas of Rome’s historic center hide hundreds of small supermarkets.
If you’re staying in a vacation apartment in the heart of the city, it’s crucial to know where to find these to pick up everything from meat to snacks.
Store hours vary but are generally very convenient. They are almost all open 7 days a week, from 8 or 8:30 until evening (usually around 9pm). The downside of these smaller markets is they don’t all carry large selections of fresh produce while certain products and brands are often more reduced.

We regard this grocery store as the best in the historic center for it’s abundant offerings of fresh fish and an excellent butcher. It’s narrow aisles are characteristic of modern grocery stores in the historic center, but they mean the shelves are chock full of products!
