The eight edition of the International Film Festival Rome is about to begin, taking place from the 8th to the 17th of November, 2013 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica and other areas of Rome, like the Via Veneto.
Since 2006, when the festival was created on the behalf of the Fondazione Cinema per Rome (Cinema Foundation of Rome), the festival has hosted and premiered great international films, as well as first class actors and directors, such as Martin Scorsese, Robert de Niro, Al Pacino and Meryl Streep. But the festival does not only offer International movie premiers, it also supports independent productions on the Mercato Internazionale del Film, the International Film Market. The market is really a contest dedicated to the commerce of audio-visual products, and will take place between the 13th and the 17th of November.
For the 2013 Edition there will be many new features that have been introduced by the newly elected artistic director Marco Müller: the itinerary includes about 60 feature presentations. A wide range of these films are dedicated to the new and emerging streams in contemporary cinema productions, and a series of debates, meetings and projections dedicated entirely to the Italian cinema.
The new rules include an Official Selection, consisting of an International competition, a few films out of competition and the sections Cinema XXI and Prospettive Italia. There is also a novelty; the autonomous section of Alice nella Città, which will welcome fourteen movies for younger participants. The contest will take place alongside the Official Selection, but follow its own rule book.
As the start date of the Film Festival Rome (Festival del Cinema di Roma) draws closer, speculations are increasing about who will be hosting the event.
