Christmas Market on Piazza Navona
13 November 2013

With the Holiday season drawing closer, we are also looking forward to the beginning of the Christmas Markets on Piazza Navona; a historic appointment reaching back almost a century which gathers thousands of tourists and Italians in the Capital each year.

Christmas Market on Piazza Navona – Rome

From December 2013 until after the “Epiphany” 2014 on January 6th some areas of the city center, in particular the Piazza Navona and the historic center, will be filled with market stands offering artistic and hand-made objects, decoration and ornaments for the Christmas tree, the nativity set, and toys of every kind.

Starting in the beginning of December, tourists and visitors will be able to visit particularly the market stands, inspired by the typical traditional Advents Markets in Northern Europe, and therefore rich in ideas for Christmas gifts, as well as sweets and delicacies typical for the winter time.

Those who are looking for a bit of typical music and entertainment instead will not be disappointed either. The City of Rome has organized several concerts for Mandolins, Gospel and ethnic music, as well as a toy and a nativity set exposition. These will take place between the Via dei Coronari, the Via dell’Orso and Sant’Eustachio. As a different kind of entertainment, that is by narrating, not singing, there will be a minstrel wandering through the city center, narrating the passersby some of the most mysterious and curious anecdotes of the city of Rome.

The Christmas Markets in the Piazza Navona are a unique occasion to admire the beauty of the antique city mixed with just the right dose of Italian folklore and culinary delicacies of the autumn and winter season, such as roasted chestnuts, hot chocolate and mulled wine. Without a doubt the holidays are also the perfect occasion to visit the Roman Museums and admire in person the architectural beauties of the past, which continue to astound today’s generations.

For those who prefer attractions in the outdoors Rome is definitely a city with thousands of resources, which are further enriched by numerous attractions in the Christmas period, such as the large squares (Piazza San Pietro, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna), and the city’s fountains, each uniquely and beautifully decorated.
