8 of Our Favorite Wine Bars in Rome
16 August 2018

After a long day exploring Rome, strolling through museums, and spending time with family and friends, there’s nothing quite like a glass of wine and a few savory snacks to start off the night. Rome is home to many great wine bars with great wine lists, comfortable interiors, and fantastic views.

Here are 8 of our favorites!

Litro

Just behind Trastevere next to Villa Sciarra Park, Litro, Via Fratelli Bonnet 5, pours unique and natural wines from selected local, national, and international producers. The relatively small wine bar has a few tables inside and several outdoor tables with table service.

Ask your server for recommendations or try some of the daily specials, and pair your glass of wine with some delectable savory snacks, like their homemade potato chips.

8 Favorite Wine Bars in Rome

Litro Vineria

Open Mon – Sat for lunch 12:30 – 3:30pm, and for aperitivo/dinner 6 – midnight (1am on Fri/Sat). Closed Sundays.

La Barrique

Tucked away at the far end of Via del Boschetto in the Monti neighborhood of Rome, La Barrique is a humble oasis for the real wine lover.

Unique bottles from lesser known local and national producers line the walls of the intimate enoteca. Stop in for lunch or dinner and dine from a limited menu of carefully-prepared Italian dishes. Drink wine with your meal and take a few bottles with you to go.

Open Mon – Fri for lunch 1 – 3pm, and for aperitivo/dinner 7 – 11:30pm. Saturdays open only for dinner. Closed Sundays.

Cul de Sac 8 Favorite Wine Bars in Rome

Cul de Sac

Cul de Sac

Located at the foot of Piazza Navona means the Cul de Sac is always full, but don’t let it’s patronage from so many foreigners fool you. Prices are reasonable and their wine list is expansive. The interior is tight so it’s worth waiting a bit for a table outside.

The wine list is a massive curated folder of reds, whites, bubbles, and fortified and dessert wines. Pair your wine with quality charcuterie and cheeses.

  • Piazza di Pasquino, 73
  • Open daily from 12pm – 12:30am

Salotto 42

Aside from it’s extensive wine list, Salotto 42 is best known for it’s position directly opposite the incredible facade of Hadrian’s Temple in Piazza di Pietra.

Harkening from 145 AD, the monument – now absorbed into the modern home of the Borsa Italiana (Italian Wallstreet) – is nearly as old as the Colosseum and Pantheon. Sip wine outside on the cobblestones with friends as you admire the stunning lit up facade of the temple.

  • Piazza di Pietra, 42
  • Open dailly from 10:30am to 2pm

Vinaietto – Antico Vineria

Nestled along the small street near Campo de’ Fiori the Vinaietto is the local’s choice for high quality, well-priced wine by the glass and bottle. Just a few tables furnish the rustic enoteca but each evening the sidewalk outside fills up with patrons with glasses enjoying a glass of wine with friends before dinner.

Just across the street Pizzeria Emma dishes out delicious pies but has little outdoor seating. If you put your name on the list, the Vinaietto is the perfect place to grab a glass of wine (or two!) while you wait.

  • Via del Monte della Farina, 38
  • Open Mon – Sat 10am – 3pm and 6:15 – 11pm. Closed Sundays

Enoteca Palombi – Oasi della Birra

Called both Enoteca Palombi and Oasi della Birra (Beer Oasis), this wine bar opens right onto Piazza Testaccio in the heart of the neighborhood. Inside the local joint is designed like a labyrinth with every inch of wall space covered in bottles, mostly of beer, but plenty of wine, too. Buy a couple bottles and feel free to enjoy one there in the store.

  • Piazza Testaccio, 38/41
  • Open Mon – Sat 8 – 1:30pm, 4:30 – 1am. Open Sundays 6pm – 1am.

Il Sorpasso

Practically around the corner from the Vatican, Il Sorpasso is a great little enoteca by the same great folks behind Trappizino, the new popular street food trend taking over Rome and beyond.

The hopping place features a cosy interior with lots of little tables and a small bar to take a glass of wine right in front of the barmen. The aperitivo is accommpanied by traditional scraps of cheese, bread, and meats for an informal, at-home touch.

  • Via Properzio, 31
  • Open Mon – Fri 7:30am – 1am. Sat 9am – 1am. Closed Sundays.

Beppe e i suoi Formaggi Wine Bars in Rome

Beppe e i Suoi Formaggi

Beppe e i suoi Formaggi

Not technically a wine bar so much as a quality cheese monger, but it’s still one of our favorite places to sit down with a great glass of local or natural wine paired with delectable charcuterie and cheeses.

Located in the Jewish Ghetto in Rome, Beppe e i suoi Formaggi is easily missed by most tourists visiting the city. But the strong cheese smells from their vast selection of quality cheeses (many made by Beppe himself in northern Italy) is hard to miss while passing by on the narrow street.

  • Via di S. Maria del Pianto, 9A/11
  • Open Mon – Sat 9am – 11pm. Closed Sundays.
