5 of our Favorite Restaurants near Piazza Navona
21 December 2017

Piazza Navona is one of the most enchanting piazzas in Rome, but it may surprise you that finding great restaurants near Piazza Navona is a tougher task than you might suspect.

The vast, popular square draws a big part of the tourist population to admire the lining facades and stunning Baroque fountains that punctuate the oval-shaped space.

1. Santa Lucia

For those who love a romantic setting, fresh fish, and a touch of elegance in the heart of Rome, Santa Lucia won’t disappoint. While the interior is vested with warm dark woods, and intimate place settings, the real jewel of the restaurant is the private dining terrace surrounded by trees. Set agains the important facades of the nearby buildings and the back-side of Piazza Navona, white table cloth tables, handsome servers, and plenty of Franciacorta make Santa Lucia a standout for a casual lunch or special occasion dinner restaurant.

2. La Focaccia

While La Focaccia will definitely see it’s share of international visitors, you’ll definitely find a fair share of locals dining either street side at it’s no-frills plastic tables and chairs or in the comfy, eclectic interior. La Focaccia is a great bet for good quality at a fair price given it’s location. A few fried antipasti, a Roman-style, thin crust pizza baked in a wood oven, water and a caraffe of house wine will cost you under €20. The location of the restaurant is conveniently tucked away from the crowded veins directly off the piazza, and a seat outside affords not only people-watching but also a front row view of the 15th century Chiostro di Bramante (also a popular venue for interesting traveling exhibitions).

3. Da Armando al Pantheon

Truth-be-told, as this name suggests, Da Armando al Pantheon, is located right off Piazza della Rotonda and the Pantheon. But it’s one of the few very good traditional restaurants near Piazza Navona serving up the Roman classics.

5. Fattoincasa by La Danesina Hosteria

The picturesque street of Via Governo Vecchio is lined with small restaurants and shops, so it’s only fitting that there be one spot recommended on this street. La Danesina is a tavern-like casual restaurant serving up Roman dishes in a comfortable environment that feels far away from the chaos of the center of Rome.

Concierge tip!

Looking for late night drinks? The fabulous little cocktail bar at G-Rough is a lovely spot for an after-dinner digestif or cocktail. For after-after-dinner cocktails, head over to Piazza delle Coppelle where there’s a secret speakeasy Derriere located inside/behind Hosteria delle Coppelle. Open until 4am everyday, the bartenders are some of the best in Rome, and unlike the Jerry Thomas Project reservations aren’t required and they don’t play by their own rules. The main entrance to the speakeasy is located on the side of the hosteria down a tight little passageway. However the fun way to get inside is through the hosteria, where a cabinet in the back of the restaurant is actually a secret entrance to the speakeasy.
