If you happen to be in the Eternal City for the spookiest day of the year: here’s the low down on things to do on Halloween in Rome.
Halloween is by no means an Italian holiday. However year after year Romans are embracing the holiday more, especially with smaller children dressing up and going trick or treating around their palazzo. For expats and tourists alike, the holiday has sufficiently been realized in plenty of the city’s clubs with all the Halloween-themed parties. November 1st is a holiday in Italy, All Saints Day, so Halloween in Rome is picking up even more popularity as younger Romans realize there is so much to do the evening before their day off.
Below are 5 ways you can enjoy Halloween in Rome, both adults and kids alike.
1. Dress Up for Halloween
This is fairly obvious, but you can’t much get into the Halloween spirit dressed in your street clothes. With a little imagination, and a quick stop at a costume shop or halloween store (or even Tiger for just a few simple accessories), you can easily get things started for a memorable Halloween in Rome.
The go to for costumes and face paint for real professionals in Rome is Studio 13 in Piazza Cavour.

2. Check Out a Halloween-Themed Party at a Club
For all your (Adult) Halloween-theme party needs, a dedicated “HalloweenRoma” Website was created. Here you can filter events by dinner and dancing (Ristodisco), just dinner (Ristoranti) and just dancing (Discoteche). Here are a few of the parties that look interesting to us:

3. Take a night tour
The Eternal City at night is magical. Any night of the year, walking through the piazzas, the forums, or any of the streets in the historic center is a unique experience. But on October 31st, the magic turns a bit spookier, especially if you take a tour. Dark Rome offers a ghost tour through Rome at night as your guide narrates the twists and turns of epic stories of the city’s monuments.
If you’re looking to see the city at night but not so keen on walking, Personalized Italy offers tour of Rome by night – a bit more romantic than spooky, the tour can be also done on Vespa.
4. Visit Cinecittà World
For the entire month of October, Cinecittà World – Rome’s film and TV themed amusement park – offers Halloween-themed activities, shows, and rides for parents and kids of all ages. There’s a Horror House featuring actors dressed up as characters from your favorite horror films, an interactive show on how professionals paint their faces for film, and a hell-themed acrobatic show. For more information, visit the Cinecittà World website.
5. Check out Rome’s spooky “underground” secrets
You can imagine that under the streets there’s still a world to discover. Visiting such places on Halloween can make the experience just a bit spookier than normal.
- Hit the Appian Way and discover the Catacombs – underground ancient cemeteries – like the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian (Via Appia Antica, 136)
- Tucked away on Via Veneto, far from the Dolce Vita-esque appearance of the area is the Crypt of the Capuchin Friars (Via Vittorio Veneto, 27) where you can visit altars decorated by the skeletons of ancient Capuchin friars.
- Visit the museum dedicated to the souls in purgatory in the small church on the river, called Chiesa del Sacro Cuore del Suffragio (Via Ulpiano, 29)
